How to harness the power of consumer eSIM to unlock massive IoT

Embedded SIM (eSIM) provides an efficient means for IoT organisations to achieve resilient global connectivity while streamlining device manufacturing and simplifying deployments.Much of the focus has been on utilising eSIMs designed for M2M use cases but by harnessing consumer eSIM functionality, more flexibility and enhanced connectivity management capabilities are enabled, especially for massive IoT deployments.

ZEDEDA launches edge academy, creating learning centre for edge computing

San Jose, California, USA – ZEDEDA, a specialist in edge orchestration, announced the launch of the ZEDEDA Edge Academy, the free online hub with educational resources on edge computing and ZEDEDA’s solution for unlocking a company’s digital future at the edge.

The academy’s self-paced video tutorials will help anyone learn more about the challenges of distributed edge computing and how ZEDEDA’s open orchestration framework provides organisations with the agility and futureproofing they need to digitally transform their operations with edge solutions. The academy will function alongside the ZEDEDA Help Centre, which hosts technical knowledge base articles, to enable anyone to define, design, deploy, manage and secure edge computing projects more efficiently at scale.

“We understand offering a blended approach of educational resources to our customers and partners is key to their long-term success in distributed edge node orchestration,” says Kevin Freitas, senior director of learning and edge academy. “We’re excited to announce Edge Academy as another key learning resource for personnel responsible for centralised secure device management and application orchestration at the edge through the ZEDEDA solution.”

The educational efforts support the growth in the amount of money that both IT and OT organiaations are investing in edge computing projects. The Edge Computing Landscape 2021 report, sponsored by ZEDEDA and conducted with EMC Research, found that 77% of respondents expect to increase spending on edge computing projects in 2022 and that 74% expected that increase to be up to 25%.

“The incredible velocity of edge computing adoption puts significant pressure on distributed organisations to quickly understand why, how and where edge computing needs to be applied to realise business and digital transformation objectives,” says Said Ouissal, founder and CEO of ZEDEDA. “As the specialist in making edge computing effortless and intrinsically secure, we believe we should make edge computing accessible to everyone, and the academy will help people prepare for the next era of computing in IT infrastructure.”

After signing up for a free account, users can gain competence and confidence through eLearning courses and video tutorials. The academy’s ZEDCloud Channel features quick how-to videos on ZEDEDA’s edge orchestration offering, while a dedicated EVE-OS channel dives into the EVE-OS operating system. The company leverages EVE-OS from the Linux Foundation as the edge component of its orchestration solution, and these resources augment those available in the open-source Project EVE community.

Edge Academy also features recorded sessions from ZEDEDA Transform, its annual industry conference that brings together experts from across the edge computing and IoT landscape to discuss trends, challenges and opportunities.

What is eSIM and how does it radically simplify IoT connectivity?

Embedded SIM (eSIM) has emerged as a means to free consumers and connected devices from the constraints of the traditional, plastic subscriber identification module (SIM) card by enabling an eSIM or an integrated SIM (iSIM) to be embedded into a device at the point of manufacture and shipped globally. On arrival at the location where
